A 2-day bird photography trip into one of our favorite spots near Ulaanbaatar city, also an important birding destination in Mongolia, the Gun –Galuut Nature Reserve. The small area with about 20,000 hectares has diverse ecosystems, mountain, lakes, steppes and wetlands, a home to some of the rare species of birds, mammals and rich in flora.

Weekend birding trip to the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park of Mongolia, the nearest biding spot from Ulaanbaatar city. The Park has large areas of forest steppe and mountain steppe, with alpine habitats on higher peaks, known as a home to globally threatened species of birds including Saker Falcon, Yellow-breasted Bunting, black-billed Capercaillie and some of iconic rare mammals such a Siberian Musk Deer, Eurasian Lynx and Eurasian Otter. 

Our latest bird photography trip to the Gun Galuut NR was remarkably successful. We saw and photographed rare birds and iconic wild animals. The beginning of June is a good time to see migratory birds in Mongolia. The wetlands of Gun Galuut NR transform into the true paradise for birders, offering some of the best birding in Mongolia.
