City Birding Escape in Ulaanbaatar
Our July birding trip in the city of Ulaanbaatar was remarkably beautiful. We observed some water birds at the skirt of the city and photographed some of the stunning flowers. Summer allows us to see the birds in their most beautiful colors and the nature in its loveliest color.
There are some good birding spots in UB and about 250 bird species in 40 families have been registered in those spots. 56 percent of them are migratory, 21 percent are summer breeders, 17 percent are residents and 6 percent of them winter migrants in Ulaanbaatar. Of these, 22 species are listed in regional and international red lists.
We don’t want to miss the beautiful summer days without watching birds and we always try to share with you our birding trip photos and ideas after any singe trip in and out of the city. Strict lockdown has lifted in June and we can go birding now. So in last weekend we made city birding escape in our capital city Ulaanbaatar. Our first spot is at the east south side of the city along the river Tuul. Here we share some pictures during the city birding escape.
Common redshank (Tringa totanus). Summer breeder in Mongolia
Long-tailed rosefinch (Carpodacus sibiricus). Resident in Mongolia
Great crested grebe (Podiceps cristatus). Summer breeder in Mongolia
We also did not miss to photograph stunning flowers which surrounded us and made our day more beautiful. River Tuul, gives us good opportunity to watch birds and flowers, is also being our best weekend getaway during summer time.
Grey heron (Ardea cinerea). Summer breeder in Mongolia
