We observed the Grey-tailed tattler in Mongolia this June

We found and photographed the grey-tailed tattler (Tringa brevipes), a passage migrant in Mongolia. It was the first time that we saw this species, there were two grey-tailed tattlers at the shore of the Gun Lake and we watched them for about an hour and captured their cute moments. It is late June so spring migration is almost over and the breeders are occurred including white-naped cranes, whooper swans and shelducks. We are happy to add two new species to our list, the spotted redshank and grey-tailed tattler and they are added to our e-Bird account list.

IUCN STATUS: NT (Near Threatened)

POPULATION: ~29,500

LENGTH: ~ 25 cm

WEIGHT: ~ 125 gr

WINGSPAN: ~ 55 cm

HABITAT: Muddy or stony shores.

MIGRATION: They are strongly migratory bird, breed in north-central and north-eastern Siberia, and winter on muddy and sandy coasts from southeast Asia to Australia. Rare passage migrant in Mongolia.

APPEARANCE: These birds resemble common redshanks in shape and size. The upper parts, underwings, face and neck are grey, and the belly is white. They have short yellowish legs and a bill with a pale base and dark tip. (Information resource: iucnredlist.org)
